Count down
Watch out – one month from now!
Here is the finished manuscript for my book. It´s published and released exactly one month from now: October 25. I hardly can wait!
Lately I have been so absorbed by the stitching, writing and editing process I haven’t really thought of any next steps like PR etc. but I suppose it’s about time I do something now…

Silkeborg Bad
Sunday I enjoyed a one-day rendezvous with my friends and colleagues Gulla and Lis from Artrovert.
We formed this group, Artrovert, years back – to have a forum to meet, inspire and challenge each other, exchange information, give response at the artwork we ´re doing and share our lives. We meet at least 3 – 7 times a year to talk and to go and visit galleries, art centres, workshops – and cafés. It’s nice to have new impressions – and it’s so much easier – and funnier – to get off when you have an appointment.
This time we met at Silkeborg Bad to see 14 + 1 stations. Exercises in Touching. An exhibition by Borgny Farstad Svalastog, a Norwegian artist who examines the theme of the journey through life. Lis has her daily work in the reception at Badet, so she always happens to know about the upcoming exhibitions and had tipped us this would be something special. And it was: Really ethereal, spiritual work in print, narrative embroidery, and strange and beautiful installations – tableaux – with rows of coloured glass shoes or –feet. (More pictures click here)
I have visited Silkeborg Bad several times before, it’s a modern art centre established in a formerly spa facility very beautifully and peacefully located at a minor lake and surrounded by a park and protected forests in outskirts of Silkeborg. However, this time it was with a special delight I drank the atmosphere of the very place and its surroundings. Knowing that in two years this is where I’m going to arrange a selected edition of 5th international Artists´ Books Triennal Vilnius! Well, it’s still far, far away – but you must be prepared to hear a lot about this project when we get closer!

A time for considering

Surely my life is in a phase of renewal and change. A lot of things have come to an end and I feel this yearning inside to rediscover, reconsider and reorganize my work, family, possibilities, idéas, everything…
I have cut down parts of my job as a teacher in order to hit a less stressing level. Fewer hours at school means less income of course, but at present I need time to consider, dream and plan some alternative – but definitely more creative ways – to live my life and get myself an income!
Book-wise I’m almost done now and that too inevitably keeps the question “what’s next” popping up in my mind.
Meanwhile I clean the house, try to find my studio table under piles of fabric, paper, books and stuff, and otherwise catch up on things and projects that have been hibernating during the last months…

A debut
For my birthday I was blessed with a membership of Jomsborg Winter Swimmers Club.
Jomsborg is situated in a beautifull environment at a unique wooden bath at the coastline only a mile or two from Århus´ Centrum and right next to Riisskov Forrest – only ten or fifteen minutes walk from my Granddad´s
Yesterday I made my debut as a winter swimmer. It was fantastic! The water is still fairly lukewarm and yesterday was one of these gentle Indian summer days so it wasn’t difficult to just jump headlong from the jetty into the basin. I didn’t even go into the sauna afterwards to get warm again.
But later: in October, November , December… well, I’ll keep you updated how I manage to get along…

London´s calling…
Now it’s for real: Anna Sofie has gone to London to take a foundation class of Art & Design at Blake College.
We first had a little trouble to find her a nice place to live, but that’s settled now; she’s going to share a flat with two other young girls, neighbours to some friends of some friends.
I have just been with Anna Sofie in London a few days in order to see the place, meet the flatmates and talk to the headmaster of the college. Now I feel good about everything and can relax a little. I’m happy to know my daughter’s in good company and has people around who’ll keep an eye on her.
It has been a terribly emotional summer though, with lots of ups and downs. Imagine – not only does your firstborn leave the nest – she’s even going abroad! Luckily she seems very confident and self-assured about it all. She definitely looks forward to try out standing at her own two feet.
To be blessed with an optimistic outlook is a true privilege. And her time will come soon: Term starts the 17. September at her 18.th birthday!
