Exhibition of recycled woollen stuff

Posted in Do redo, Inspiration at 11:55 pm by hanne

Saturday I’m going to attend a workshop on recycling wool with Katarina Brieditis, one of the writers of the book “Do redo – the art of butchering a sweater”.

As an appetizer I went to see an exhibition  on recycled textiles at Bymuseet today and to hear Annemor Sundbø, a textile designer from Norway, lecturing on the subject.

Anne Marie Helger, actress and political provocateur, known for her satirical comments, crazy humour and extraordinary dresses opened the exhibition.

It was a very inspiring afternoon. Now I really look forward for the workshop!

At her small woollen mill she produces tweed and woollen duvets basically made out of recycled wool. Here she has discovered and studied the hidden treasures of the storage bins containing all sorts of worn out – and carefully repaired – sweaters, socks and other wool ware. Studying these piles of knitted rags has given her a comprehensive knowledge about traditional knitting patterns and cultural history

My beloved daughter; how absolutely wonderful to see you again!!!

To embrace and touch you, talk face to face, walk the streets together, meet the people you live with, see your college, teachers and fellow students, hear you explain about the ideas and intentions of your artwork – and above all – feel your joy, enthusiasm and sparkling energy…

Friday! Weekend! Autumn Holiday!

Posted in Daily life, Family, Friends, Things to do at 2:51 pm by hanne

A time for creativity and organizing: Sew a new collage, write a letter, select stuff for my window display (my book!) at two of the best bookstores in Arhus. Figure out how to set up a net shop at etsy.

A time for visiting family & friends: Especially I’m looking forward to see Anna Sofie in London!

A time for relaxing: take a walk, read a book, read the newspaper in bed in the morning…

What more can one ask for?!

SEW

Posted in Inspiration, Magazines at 2:30 pm by hanne

Look what I found in my pillar box yesterday: The premier issue of SEW Somerset, a brand new biannual publication from that focus at projects combining sewing with mixed-media. That’s just my cup of tea!

And guess who’s in it?

Yes! Right! My stitched file cover and notebook – as well as an article on some of my collages from Vilnius. I’m very pleased with the lay out – it looks great so of course I had to take a serious break and flicker through all 6 chapters: Wearables – Books, Boxes & Folders –  Décor – Mixed Media & Collage –  Cards, ATCs & Scrapbook Pages – and  Art Quilts.

Are you too working in the crossover field of mixed-media and stitching and would you like to see your creations on print you’re invited by Stampington & Co to submit your most innovative and imaginative art projects that incorporate sewing for the next volume.
