A perfect day for experiments with cast in concrete – something I’ve never tried before… Now it should just be allowed to dry slowly. I’m so curious as to how clear an imprint to expect.

First we take Manhattan…

Glimpses from the vernissage of hem : HJEM : koti : heima : angerlarsimaffik at KunstCenter Silkeborg Bad on Saturday, April 6.

Artists and guests were welcomed by Director of the Art Centre Iben From - and the exhibition was opened with an intro by artist Steen Rasmussen. Later the program unfolded with artists’ talks and performances by respectively Susanne Helweg, Anne Bjørn, Rita Marhaug and Jessie Kleemann. 

The exhibition is on display in Silkeborg till August 11, where it will go on tour – in first place – to Nuuk,  Tórshavn and Reykjavik…

I’m talking about the logistic part: To plan, schedule, make call, write emails, organize papers into folders, make lists, keep track of appointments, and communication. In short: How many hours at the desk – and how many hours in the studio with brush and paint bucket at hand.

Don’t get me wrong. I also enjoy that part of life. Sometimes I just find the balance a little too … well … unbalanced.

But next week I’ll be “out of office”. Looking forward to vegetate, recharge and maybe get some points and lines into the my sketch book.

Last Friday we gathered to have an artists’ books workshop at ArtCenter Silkeborg Bad. A great day for mutual exchange of ideas, know-how and  inspiration! I’m so full of new ideas for the next steps now.

Thank you to Giuli, Lis, Joe, Susanne, Bodil, Bente, Rita, Marianne, Dorthe and Anne – for open minded sharing and high spirits!

It has been a lot of hard work – but also very pleasent to be with collegues – and to experience the professinal attutude and level of mind we experienced from staff and managers. And best of all: I feel very pleased about the result. Really think we managed to create an aesthetical, beautiful and interesting setting.

Also Dorte (Bøtker) and Anne (Bjørn) passed by to deliver their works and to give a helping hand with the binding and stamping of catalogs. I’m very satisfied how they appear; that’s quite casual, a little rustic – and very handmade. The idea has been to let the catalog for an artists’ books exhibition be a sort of artists’ book in itself.

One week till the OPENING of

– you’re hereby invited!

The exhibition openes at 11 am with a welcome by director of the Art Center Iben From – and opening speech by artist Steen Rasmussen.

At 1 pm we have a small program scheduled with performances and artists talks by Jessie Kleemann (Gl), Rita Marhaugh (No), Susanne Helweg (Dk) and Anne Bjørn (Dk).

These days are occupied by final touches. I still need to finish a few things before  loading the car and heading towards hem : HJEM : koti : heim : heima : angerlarsimaffik and Silkeborg.

Opposing feelings are interacting. One part of me painfully clearly observes how  butterflies have started romping around my stomach …. Another part seems to enjoy moments of – almost – zen.

Seems I’m down to my knees anyway…

Well, it’s actually a very phycical act to get my 1:1 into the right folds. It is made of very heavy aquarelle paper so it isn’t exactly handy. I first made a small scale model – so I can see how to do it right the first time.

Pages for 300 catalogs are printed and ready – but we still have some on-going work on mounting, binding and stamping of the covers. A lot of hands-on. But that’s what we want: A result very “handmade” and artists’ book-like.
