And now to something totally different: Next project - LOVE LETTERS – an event that deals with the delicate art of creating a declaration of love. Takes place tomorrow in room no. 937 at Hotel Radisson during the Aarhus Cultural Night.

We plan an exhibition of love letters, love declarations, poems and pictures. In short: Love Letters in every conceivable (and inconceivable?) edition. All kinds – from the really kind-hearted, sweet, gentle, vulnerable, naive – to the clear, concise, direct, frivolous (obscene?), painfully delicate, poetic, high-flying, etc.

The audience will be challenged to try it themselves. Come and get inspired and use the Cultural Night well by telling at least one person in the world that he/ she is truly loved – here and now!

We encourage you to write / sign / print your loving and caring thoughts and feelings. It can be for your husband, your wife, grandmother, best friend, worst enemy, cousin, neighbor, greengrocer, secret lover, local politician, former math teacher, for the detainees at Guantanamo – or whoever you want to present with a  LETTER of LOVE.

We´ll provide visitors with a various range of stationery, postcards, red, blue and black ink, pens and quills, heart blood, love quotes and images within an inviting, open minded and open hearted atmosphere. So come on in – give LOVE a chance!

All statements, exclamations, letters etc. will be shipped as far as possible during the Culture Night by usual snail mail, pigeon, courier, message in a bottle – and all other available means!

13 Nordic artists gathered in this old styled wooden house for 2 days to share a passion for creating artists’ books – sharing ideas, techniques, etc. – how lovely is that?

I´d lik to think we´ll all meet again – next time on Iceland or Gotland… or some island outside Helsinki…

A few glimpses from the opening last weekend. Finally we got there – the culmination of long time’s planning and concentrated work.

Yet a very fine day I´d say – with speeches, flowers, music, wine and a very, very interested audience!

So here we are lining up the suitcases – and all other art works – send from our Nordic colleagues for CON-TEXT.

At the same time the first artists arrive at Silkeborg – and pass by Kulturspinderiet to say ‘hello’ and see how the setting up progressed. Most works have been shipped in advance – but a few special fragile – or brand new – works have to be handed over personally.

Next project on artists’ books…

From yesterdays opening of TEXT – a wonderful day with official speeches, music, wine etc. at the Art Center Silkeborg Bad. A lot of visitors including family, friends and artist colleagues. The air loaded with positive response, crazy artists’ talk – and at the same time new ideas popping up for next art projects…

Some of the Swedish artists represented even came by with their family – making a short city break out of it. (SO great to see you again – Dalia and Katriona – and Kestutis of course – hope we’ll actually go on developing the concept of “The English Patient…)

Something I have awaited for a very long time – and suddenly it is just one last step away: TEXT -5th International Artist´s Book Triennial Vilnius 2009 – is now in Silkeborg!!!

Kestutis arrived yesterday at the Art Centre and we started the unpacking of more than 200 artists’ books of every imaginable color, shape, kind and style… … It is wonderful to see it all again and find the best place for every single piece in the central Column Hall.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 11 am – and will be on display for 3 months at the ArtCentre Silkeborg Bad.

Impressions from the opening …

The empty spaces on the wall are because visitors are allowed to pick their favourite prescription – take it from the wall – and bring it home. For free.

In total we have about some 1000 prescriptions to hand out. Imagine what a feeling of abundance it is to be able to give…  And why? If I tell the truth: it is to make the world a better place – you’d probably laugh. So the official answer is: Just because…

No breaking news propably – we live in a society concerned with physical phenomenon and material manifestations: Money, materialism and matter always seem to outmanoeuvre consciousness and spirituality for instance! And the division between body and soul still seem to be a mere fact to the majority of people around here (at least when we talk Western Europe…)

And when it comes to health questions there’s no real difference. We know a lot about how the physical body works – which is very good – until a certain point as the body is in fact the temple of the soul. And therefore it is only admirable that we take good care; that we trim, exercise, nurture, goes on a diet, wash the intestines, and fight the urge to smoke, to eat sugar, drink alcohol, take drugs and go to any other kind of excesses. We want to become – or stay – “fit” – but fit for what?

Controlling the body, the temple, is only one part of the game. What about the content of the temple – the soul itself? How can we give more attention to soul matters and establish a better balance between the inner and outer realities?

Together with a dozen local artists I approach this question during the upcoming Århus Festival Week. We´ll do so by literally handing out prescriptions for souls and minds – in the form of small pieces of unique art. Provocative, beautiful, intriguing or just plain odd images – meant for internal as well as external use.

The event will take place from Højbjerg Bibliotek starting Friday afternoon 16-18 and as long as there’re still prescriptions available. Feel free to drop by and pick yourself whatever you need “on prescription”
