Silkeborg Bad

Sunday I enjoyed a one-day rendezvous with my friends and colleagues Gulla and Lis from Artrovert.

We formed this group, Artrovert, years back – to have a forum to meet, inspire and challenge each other, exchange information, give response at the artwork we ´re doing and share our lives. We meet at least 3 – 7 times a year to talk and to go and visit galleries, art centres, workshops – and cafés. It’s nice to have new impressions – and it’s so much easier – and funnier – to get off when you have an appointment.

This time we met at Silkeborg Bad to see 14 + 1 stations. Exercises in Touching. An exhibition by Borgny Farstad Svalastog, a Norwegian artist who examines the theme of the journey through life. Lis has her daily work in the reception at Badet, so she always happens to know about the upcoming exhibitions and had tipped us this would be something special. And it was: Really ethereal, spiritual work in print, narrative embroidery, and strange and beautiful installations – tableaux – with rows of coloured glass shoes or –feet. I have visited Silkeborg Bad several times before, it’s a modern art centre established in a formerly spa facility very beautifully and peacefully located at a minor lake and surrounded by a park and protected forests in outskirts of Silkeborg. However, this time it was with a special delight I drank the atmosphere of the very place and its surroundings. Knowing that in two years this is where I’m going to arrange a selected edition of 5th international Artists´ Books Triennal Vilnius! Well, it’s still far, far away – but you must be prepared to hear a lot about this project when we get closer!

  1. Borgny Svalastog’s exhibition has been here in TRondheim as well. Her work is great.

Thank you for sharing this! I’m going to google the show to see if there’s more information.

  3. What a great idea for a group! It sounds like a book title or something, too.
